Physical Therapy for Seniors

Many people are familiar with physical therapy as a treatment after a serious accident, injury, or condition such as a stroke. However, its usefulness extends well beyond those specific conditions. According to the National Institutes of Health, physical therapy is good for improving strength, balance, mobility and overall fitness. Those are factors that all seniors could benefit from, as each contributes to the physical ability of maintaining independence, quality of life and overall well being.

MVP’s physical therapy services are a perfect fit for seniors!  Our clinic strives to not only expedite the healing process and improve quality of your everyday life, but we have devised a program to promote health and wellness that is included in every physical therapy plan.  In addition to the physical therapy program, we provide every patient with a complimentary gym pass to MVP’s premiere fitness facility adjoining our physical therapy clinic.

Physical Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis Patients

Physical therapy cannot cure the primary symptoms of MS (such as tremors, tingling, numbness, loss of balance, vision impairment, paralysis, and bladder or bowel dysfunction), but therapy can enable you to compensate for the changes brought about by Multiple Sclerosis. Our compensatory treatments include learning about new movement techniques, strategies, and use of equipment.  Physical therapy can also be very helpful at lessening and even stopping secondary symptoms of MS. Our Physical Therapy team can teach you exercises to strengthen and loosen muscles. The goal of physical therapy is to improve your independence and quality of life by improving movement and function and relieving pain.

Treatments can include but are not limited to:

  • Joint Mobilization
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization
  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation
  • Therapeutic Exercise
  • Pilates Based Therapeutic Exercise
  • Plyometrics
  • Ultrasound
  • Interferential Electrical Stimulation
